Tips.js display wrong tip in parent/child context

Reported by Xandros | July 5th, 2011 @ 02:35 PM

When applying the Tips to a set of parent and child elements, where both have titles, there is an issue where the Parent tip is displayed instead of the child one.

if you open the console, you see that if moving your mouse directly to the child element (without hovering the parent first), only the parent element gets printed to the console.

Adding a event.stop() in the elementEnter method in Tips fixes the issue, but it's just to make sure why the issue arises and not a valid fix IMHO, since it may break a use of onmouseenter not related to Tips.

You shouldn't nest Tips. At least not with the same instance. Feel free to use several instances and abstract away from Tips.js to suit the behavior you want.

This is quite an unfortunate answer, Christoph. Means I would have to first parse through the page and detect if there are any nested elements with title attributes, then create a separate Tips instance specifically for those, versus just handling it somehow inside the class, as does the browser perfectly...
