Mootools are not yet dead :)

Reported by Daniel Steigerwald | July 21st, 2008 @ 02:51 PM | in 2.0 (closed)

Just a suggest. I know reasons why Valerio refused them, but it's interesting concept, no?

function MyClass(){
    var foo = 5;
    this.getFoo = function(){ return foo; }
}

function OtherClass(){
    MyClass.apply(this);
}

var o = new OtherClass;
alert( o.getFoo() );   // alerts 5

It's not static members, it's instance scoped.

    I guess the reason Valerio refused private vars is because they dont work with the class model MooTools has. (You can still workaround this by an anonymous wrapper function).

    workaround this by an anonymous wrapper function - yes, but it will be one private scope for all instances. I would like private scope for all instances. Anyway, I can use initialize.. but it looks ugly.

    I feel, you guys are blind (or sleeping). You are not interested in any new concept, new features, nor bug fixing. I understand, this project didn't brought money for you, but it's only yours fault. No sane person would kill forum and community at all. Many thanx for you work, but it's obvious, that moo developement, is completely dead now.

    Polite person would write to blog something about, e.g. "sorry guys, but we have no time (money) to continue."

    Valerio was all the time rude and displeasing, so I'm not surprised, I'm just sad.

    ... only what moo guys are doing during last year, is:

    • trashing suggestions
    • invaliding request
    • ignoring fixes
    • ridiculing new ideas

    That's sad true.

    Pardon me, but is there any example that shows what we would add to MooTools? This is a pattern that people can use in their code, no pattern where we can add helpers to MooTools, like Class or $extend.

    Maybe discussing this pattern idea in the forum is more effective than being rude in a ticket. These tickets should show the progress and add resources for an issue, and not be the first place to discuss them. Link to the according discussion thread in a ticket comment would be the easiest way.

    Another idea, so people can easier get and test your idea, is to make a patch. Just throwing ideas at developers doesn't make their life easier. A tested patch + specs allows all contributors to test and enhance your code.

    Where is the forum for developers please? You have killed it, why?

    I've posted many code patch, just look at tickets opened by me. And nobody is interested in, except Jan Kassens, but nobody from old moo crew. I'm rude? I suppose this is Valerio style, so could be more understandable for you, sorry.

    Discussions take place here:

    http://groups.google.com/group/m...

    How to post a patch:

    http://github.com/mootools/mooto...

    http://github.com/mootools/mooto...

    I still don't see a reason to be rude only because your enhancement don't get enough attention. I'm sure a discussion the google group can solve that and you can get more users to support your idea. When you created the discussion thread, link it here so people follow this discussion.

    Thanks for contributing.

    I supposed Google groups were intended for users, not developers, but it doesn't matter. I was rude, because old forum and development were stopped, without any explanations. I would understand any reason, and you could understand, that peoples has projects based on mootools, which seems be stopped.

    Please, a bit more communication and openness, sometimes it look like a kind of close sect.
