$ method selecting element by name in IE 6

Reported by Arkh | September 23rd, 2008 @ 11:53 AM | in 2.0 (closed)

In IE 6, if I use $("kikoo") in a document where there are some elements with the name "kikoo" and one with the id "kikoo", the id one may not be selected. See attached file for a demo.

Ok, forget it. It's in a fact a bug in IE6 which combine name and id in document.getElementById. Dunno if there's a workaround (in which case it would be awesome to integrate it).

    • State changed from “new” to “invalid”

There is a workaround, but unfortunately it is very costly in terms of performance. A simple way to avoid this IE bug is to always use the same name and id attributes on your elements...

Just adding a note, that this also happens in IE 7.
