Request fails when url has hash in IE7

Reported by Michal | April 17th, 2009 @ 10:19 PM | in 1.2.3

When the url of a Request contains a hash (#) in IE7, a Request never succeeds.

This is an issue for me, as I like to copy the action attribute of a form for Ajax submission, and the action field can have a hash in it (to move to the "results" anchor in the resulting page for non-javascript submission)

A workaround is just to manually split the action string at the hash, and remove everything after the hash from the url (which, I thought, doesn't get transmitted to the server anyway...?)

A live version of the attached page is at http://yetagain.net/sandbox/form/

Hi, I've notice, after some test, that Exporer return, for an URL with an anchor, the status 404 (Url not found). IE6 and IE7 have the same behaviour. It seems to me an IE bug while handling URLs with an anchor in XMLHttpRequest.open() function.

Just one note. It only fails when you do /path/to/file#hash and not when you do /path/to/file?#hash.
