Form call with button named "send" inside fails in IE6 on first call

Reported by Björn | May 29th, 2009 @ 03:51 PM | in 2.0 (closed)

If there's a Button named "send" inside of a form, the form is undefined(IE 6) on the first call. Second call works. Check the attached file.

    • Tag changed from 1.2.2, form, ie6 to 1.2.2, form, ie

    This problem is caused by the $ function extending the form element with MooTools methods, which includes a send() method. IE6 and 7 don't like it when you try to overwrite a named input of the form. Even without including MooTools, you can reproduce this error with the following:

    document.getElementById('test_form').send = function(){};

    Maybe $.element() should be patched?

    $.element = function(el, nocash){
        if (!nocash && !el.$family && !(/^object|embed$/i).test(el.tagName)){
            var proto = Element.Prototype;
            for (var p in proto)
                if (!el[p]) el[p] = proto[p];  // check first
        return el;
