#866 ✓invalid

problem with fade('hide') on IE8, slow behavior on IE 6-7

Reported by ely | March 14th, 2010 @ 02:01 PM

please have a look at:

the required behavior:
-when pressing on the tab links -- the content is switched -when pressing on "cycle content" -- the content is switched

works perfect on all browsers except IE:

on IE8 - the hide command invoked by the tabs is ignored
on IE 6,7 - it works but sometimes you need to click twice, its as if it cant calculate it on time.

I'm aware that my code is not the best since I'm an amateur, so maybe its my fault. any ideas?

    So i think you'll have better look checking out one of the amazing mootools help communities like IRC or something... I read through your code really quick and a couple of things jumped out at me.

    first instead of using fade like this:

    $(current).fade('hide'); $(target).fade('show');

    i think you want something like this:

    $(current).setStyle('display', 'none'); $(current).setStyle('display', 'block');

    unless you are actually looking for the fade effect --

    which would be :

    .fade('in') or .fade('out')

    you're also using "max_index" in a strange way...

    maxindex = 3...

    why not use the .length property (this will make it more flexible in the future...)

    plus try to declare your globals up at the top of the document, this makes it easier to read and edit...

    so i caved and just rewrote it for you:

    I didn't try it in ie...but i'm guessing it's working... if it doesn't let me know :)

    Hi Ely,

    I hope Jacob's answer has fixed this issue for you, if you have any implementation problems, it's better to ask them in the Google Group ( or in the IRC channel (irc://

    Hi Jacob. thanks so much for your trouble, but actually it doesn't work on IE.
    run your link on IE8 and you'll see that the content is not being hidden on click.

    Ohh that's right...

    So the problem you're experiencing looks something like this:

    here's a shell:

    it's actually not a mootools bug, but some ie strangeness that you just need to adapt to ( fade() uses opacity ) -- hope that helps :)
