Request with POST and no url parameter fails under IE

Reported by Aron /Zajmedia/ | March 19th, 2010 @ 09:16 AM | in 1.3.0 rc2 (closed)

Maybe it's not such a good idea to omit the url parameter in a Request object. Nonetheless, every browser handles it well, by POSTing or GETing to the current url. Even IE 7 and 8 handles it well for GET requests. It however chokes on POST requests. To recreate this issue:

var r = new Request({ 'data': 'whatever=1234' });
r.send();

Try running this under IE and it will fail. IE 6 will fail with GET requests as well.

Possible solution:
- if the url parameter is empty, it could default to the current url, instead of defaulting to null.

Benefits:
I understand this is not really a bug. One should probably not omit the url parameter. But given that browser consistency is one of the goals, I assume this would be a beneficial improvement.
